Brief Description:
Singing For Fun is just what it says – a chance to sing and exercise a part of the brain, lungs and vocal chords in a sociable atmosphere. Every level of singing ability is welcome – there’s no such thing as tone deaf and we’re welcome friendly and supportive. You’ll be encouraged to sing out! We sing a wide variety of songs; traditional British songs, songs from the musicals, pop and rock standards (think Beatles, Elvis Presley) and many more genres. The aim is just to have fun singing songs you will know and learning a few that may be unfamiliar. This isn’t a choir, so you won’t need to be able to read music, follow a music score or sing anything other than the melody line. If you do feel the desire to harmonise, that’s great but not compulsory. The words of the songs are projected onto a screen so there’s no need for paper but distance glasses might be helpful for some! We have an extensive list of songs already in the repertoire, with lots more waiting to be introduced. If you have a particular favourite you want to sing, bring it along or let me know and we’ll give it a go. I accompany and encourage using concertina and voice, with occasional assistance from YouTube videos or similar. If I struggle to find a key we can all sing in, bear with me and we’ll get there and hopefully laugh in the process.
