Groups
Most of our Groups have now finished for the Summer Holidays so the information shown relates to earlier in this year. The Activity Leaflet contains the restart date for each Group: please download a copy of the Activity Leaflet from this bottom of this page, or pick one up in the Office.
OIR Largs offers opportunities to experience varied activities while making new friends along the way. These range from learning languages, participating in sport or even discovering a hidden musical talent. There are many more available and these can be found in the six category sections below; please have a browse to see if any take your fancy.
If you would like further information on any of these please contact the Group Leader of the specific activity or drop into the OIR Office for a friendly chat.
Italian Advanced
We welcome new members; some basic knowledge of Italian is desirable but not strictly necessary. The Group is ideal if you already speak some Italian and would like to practice your conversation.
Guitar
We are led by John Thomson and play a variety of songs from Scottish to Folk and back. Our ability also includes singing the numbers although some of our participants prefer to stay silent. They say for the good of all in the room. We have on occasion played for an audience which has been well received.
Singing for Fun
Singing For Fun is just what it says – a chance to sing and exercise a part of the brain, lungs and vocal chords in a sociable atmosphere. Every level of singing ability is welcome – there’s no such thing as tone deaf and we’re welcome friendly and supportive.
Hill Walking
We are a friendly group that walk every Saturday throughout the year taking a few weeks off over the summer.
Walks vary between 6 and 12 miles taking between 4 to 6 hours. In the winter months the walks tend to be local and at a lower level. During the longer days we travel anything up to an hour to get to the start, taking in walks with more ascent - anything up to Munro level.
Level Walking
Our friendly walking group continues all year round. Walks vary in length from 3 to 10 miles and each walk is planned with a coffee & scone stop along the way. Some walkers end their walk here while others continue on. I ensure public transport is close by.
