An Archaeology Group is starting up for the first time in September ‘25. At present, we’re thinking if it as being a one-year course, but it could continue beyond this.
The focus will be on British Archaeology, starting at the end of the last Ice Age – about 11,000 years ago – and looking at various ages; explaining their characteristics and looking at their legacy. Our first look at Largs will come in the Neolithic section. It’s anticipated that the end-point will be the British Early Medieval period.
We’ll use a mixture of exposition and discussion, with the presentations all being highly visual. A few ‘fieldtrips’ have been arranged to look at features of interest, though most of the course will be indoors. We won’t be doing any excavating, but will share advice on coming excavations that are looking for willing hands and strong backs!
We’ll meet every second Tuesday morning, 10 to 12, in the United Free Church Hall in Brisbane Road. The first meeting will be on Tuesday 16th September. The main presenter, Iain Mills, has a background in Archaeology.
